2. Book of Witches: Characters in the Witches by Roald Dahl

There are many memorable characters in Roald Dahl‘s The Witches, but two, in particular, stand out: the Grand High Witch and her nemesis, the boy named Luke.

The Grand High Witch is the leader of all the witches in the world, and she is determined to rid the world of all children. She is a truly evil character, and her physical appearance is just as horrifying as her personality. She has a long, hooked nose, green skin, and a bald head. Her hands are covered in warts, and her fingernails are long and sharp.

Luke is the only child who is able to see through the witches’ disguise and foil their plans. He is a brave and resourceful boy, and he eventually defeats the Grand High Witch. Luke is a sympathetic character, and readers can’t help but root for him as he takes on the witches.

3. Children’s Book of Witches: What Are They Like?

A quick Google search will reveal that there are many, many different types of witches in children’s books. Some are benevolent, some are malicious, and some are somewhere in between. In this post, we’ll take a look at three different examples of witches in children’s literature to get a sense of what they’re like.

The first example is from the book The Witch of Blackbird Pond by Elizabeth George Speare. In this book, the witch is an elderly woman who helps the main character, Kit, when she first arrives in the town of Salem. The witch is kind and wise, and she eventually helps Kit to find her place in the community.

The second example is from the book The Wizard of Oz by L. Frank Baum. In this book, the witch is the Wicked Witch of the West, who is, as her name suggests, wicked. She is violent and cruel, and she ultimately meets her demise at the hands of Dorothy and her friends.

The third example is from the book Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone by J.K. Rowling. In this book, there are two witches: Professor Minerva McGonagall and Professor Dolores Umbridge. Professor McGonagall is a kind and fair teacher, while Professor Umbridge is a strict and cruel authority figure. Both witches ultimately play important roles in Harry’s story.

As we can see, there is no one-size-fits-all answer to the question of what witches in children’s books are like. They can be kind or cruel, helpful or harmful, and their motives can be good or bad. But one thing is for sure: witches in children’s books are always interesting, and they always have the power to surprise us.
